Why We Have a Twitterfeed on Our Homepage

When you arrived at PerfectMarket.com, you may have wondered, “Why is so much prime homepage real estate devoted to the @Perfect Market Twitterfeed?” We’re glad you asked.

Here are five reasons Perfect Market features a Twitterfeed on our homepage:

  1. Our Voice – The Perfect Market Twitter account is the “voice” of our company. We tweet breaking news that impacts our industry. We tweet about world events that affect our community and our partners. We cover live events and conferences that pertain to our business. Often we retweet pithy insights by our peers and thought leaders in our field. We also delight in tweeting the flashes of inspiration, idiosyncrasies, and bad jokes that emerge inside our walls on a daily basis. It’s a reflection of who we are and why we enjoy doing what we do.
  2. Social Search – Due to the rapid emergence of the social web, search engines are altering core products to adapt to user behavior and improve the relevance of their results. Search queries now often include real-time status updates from Twitter and Facebook. The social Web has radically altered the ways in which we consume and distribute news. A recent Pew Internet report suggested that 75% of online news consumers get news on social networking sites while 52% say they share links through the same means. This is only expected to increase. Suffice to say, when it comes to the emergence of social search, we rely on the skills we teach.
  3. News Partner Imperative – Our partners break the news the rest of the world shares. Whether it’s fast-moving fires and mudslides in Los Angeles, Tiger Woods’ infidelities and ethical quandaries over killer whales, not to mention the athletic achievements on display at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics – we have the finest content partners on the Web. Sharing our content partners’ work is not only a privilege, it’s often a breaking news imperative. (Sometimes they DM us to say nice things and ask questions. We really like that.)
  4. Community Engagement – We follow people relevant to our industry. We converse with people we respect, admire and respectfully disagree with (OK, that was just once). Mostly, we tweet information that we find valuable. We look to others to do the same. This is the social web and to disengage from it is to ignore the world around us.
  5. Community Insights – We use Twitter to find people we’re interested in, hire people, set up meetings, get social votes for our friends, direct attention, make announcements, meet new friends, network at conferences, and get feedback from our users. Our general philosophy is that if you follow us, we’ll follow you back. You can follow @Perfect Market. We look forward to tweeting with you.
